TEN years ago, the movie Storm Riders (Fung Wan) took cinema-goers by storm. Today, Storm Warriors (Fung Wan II) is riding high, and has become this year’s top-grossing Chinese movie in the box office in Hongkong.

On the first day of its release alone, the movie took in HK$2.25million (RM1.13 million). A total of 109 cinema circuits screened 521 shows simultaneously, making it the most screened movie at any one time in the history of Hongkong’s cinemas.

Now, the cinemas are seeking a longer screening period, with more shows during the weekends.

Naturally, a celebration is in order and Aaron Kwok who plays Cloud in the movie couldn’t be happier or more proud.

Young father figure

The youngest of the Fahrenheit members, Aaron Yan (pix), has announced that he has become a ‘father’.

During his birthday celebration recently, Yan revealed that he has successfully sponsored an African child.

As if that is not enough, he and a egion of fans from Taiwan, Japan and Korea baked some cookies for children of an orphanage. Now, that’s a loving ‘father’ figure.


Dream come true

LOCAL song-writer/singer/actor A-Niu aka Tan Kheng Seong (pix) has realised his dream of becoming a director.

He has managed to round up a group of close friends and fellow artistes to star in his first movie, Chu Lian Hung Dou Ping (First Love Red Bean Ice).

Artistes who will be appearing in the movie with him include Angelica Lee who portrays his girlfriend; Fish Leong who plays a girl with a crush on him; Gary Chaw as a ruffian; Jet Yi as his big brother; Victor Wong and Michael Wong in supporting roles; as well as Nicholas Teo and Penny Tai in cameos.

The movie was initially slotted for release during the Chinese New Year but in view of stiff competition from Hollywood and Hongkong, the local production will be released in March instead.

Congratulations in order

AT the second birthday party of Hacken Lee’s son in October, Lee (pix) had apparently wished that his son could have a little sister to play with.

That wish is about to come true as he has announced that his wife is pregnant again.

Although he would have preferred to keep the news a secret until later, he decided to share his happiness with all, more so when he discovered the paparazzi nosing around.

"Since it’s good news, I want to let everyone know earlier," he said, adding that he hoped the press would give them some space, considering his wife’s delicate condition.

"I’ll give a detailed report every two months," he promised.
