KUCHING: Response to the World Vision Child Sponsor programme is not very encouraging.
Of the more than 600,000 people here, only 600 have come forward to be sponsors. This has prompted Kuching-born international artiste Nicholas Teo to make a passionate plea for more people to do their part for children and communities in need.
“When given by one person RM50 is small, but when many people do it, it becomes a big amount which can help change the lives of those in need,” said Teo who shared his experience as a World Vision Child Sponsor at a forum here on Wednesday evening.
Teo, who has been a sponsor since 2007, shared his experiences and impressions of his many visits to World Vision’s projects in Vietnam last year. He recollected his journeys, especially the unforgettable moments, with one of his sponsored children, Thuy Bui.
“I was deeply touched and impressed with their strength and resilience as well as their ability to persevere in difficult situations.
“As the trip progressed, this particular thought kept pressing on me that we are one no matter who we are and where we are from. Therefore, it is our duty to lend a helping hand to the less fortunate. It is our responsibility to help another human being to thrive,” he told the forum which was moderated by MyFM disc jockey Amelyn Bong.
